BCDP’s First Executive Director
Hello Boulder County Democrats! We are excited to share with you the hiring of our first-ever BCDP Executive Director: Dr. Stuart C. Lord!
Stuart’s talents and vision present great opportunities for BCDP. We’re excited to be working with him to reach voters in new ways and strengthen our progressive message. Here is some of what Stuart will be working on in this new role:
- Kitchen Table Issues Lab: A countywide tour of listening sessions and community forums where residents and neighbors engage on issues like affordability, mental health, immigrant rights, and democracy.
- Fundraising & Growth: Expanding the donor base while honoring the long legacy of grassroots volunteerism and sustaining the Party through long-term committed supporters.
- Youth & Inclusion: Cultivating relationships with CU Boulder students and Young Democrats, expanding internship opportunities, and building leadership pipelines to diversify and energize the Party.
- Truth & Trust Infrastructure: Developing a rapid-response hub to counter misinformation and strengthen community confidence in elections.
- Community Listening & Engagement: Deepening opportunities for conversation and connection through Kitchen Table gatherings and neighborhood outreach, ensuring voters see their values and daily lives reflected in the Party’s work.
About Dr. Stuart C. Lord
Dr. Lord has dedicated more than 25 years to civic engagement, grassroots organizing, social justice leadership, and advancing equity and inclusion. A lifelong Democrat, he has worked on the Obama presidential campaign, the Hillary Clinton campaign, and served as Executive Director of President Clinton’s Summit for America’s Future, chaired by General Colin Powell. At DePauw University, he founded a Civic Interns Program that dramatically increased student volunteerism and earned the institution President George W. Bush’s Point of Light Award for outstanding service leadership.
Locally, Stuart has served as a Precinct Organizer in Lafayette and a leader of the Candidate Team, helping to recruit and support local Democratic candidates. His community leadership includes serving as Board Chair of TGTHR, Co-Founder of the Declaration of Respect, working with the Boulder police department, Facilitator of the Freedom Shelf Banned Books Project, and Founder of the BSA Survivors Action Group. He also launched the BVSD Grad+ Leadership Academy, which prepares high school students for college, careers, and civic leadership through internships at local sites. Students received stipends upon completion, made possible by the Impact on Education foundation.
In addition, he serves on the board of Forward Steps and was recently appointed by Governor Jared Polis to the Colorado Historic Preservation Review Board.
Stuart is also CEO of the Y Solve Foundry and Lead of the Possibyl Equity Value Creation FrameworkSM (EVCF). The Y Solve Foundry is a U.S. nonprofit focused on increasing the capacity, efficiency, and effectiveness of the doing-good economy, delivering Y Solve Lab portfolio company products and services to the nonprofit, university, and municipal sectors. It also oversees the Learning Center of Excellence, which develops learning programs for portfolio companies and pursues initiatives that bring innovation to the doing-good sector.
His career has included senior leadership in higher education, including service as President of Naropa University and leadership positions at Dartmouth College and DePauw University.
Looking forward to this new role, Stuart says, “It is a profound honor to serve this Party at such a pivotal moment. We will build on the foundation created by generations of volunteers and leaders, expand our outreach through kitchen table conversations, and ensure that every community in Boulder County knows they belong at this table. Together, we will transform hope into action.”
